LOS ANGELES (AP) - New video released by police Tuesday shows officers joking with three black people considering suing over what they say was an excessive response to a racially motivated 911 call in Southern California. The body camera footage released by the Rialto Police Department shows a laid-back and at times light-hearted interaction between officers and the group they had pulled over, which included the granddaughter of reggae legend Bob Marley.
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities were set to resume excavation work in a wooded area northeast of Detroit for the remains of a 12-year-old girl and the bodies of up to six others missing for decades. Warren police, the FBI and other agencies started work at the site in Macomb Township on Monday and began digging in earnest Tuesday with shovels and excavation equipment for Kimberly King's remains before ending for the day. The work was to restart Wednesday.
NEW YORK (AP) - Less than three months ago, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman went before the news cameras to announce a lawsuit accusing movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and his former studio of abusing and intimidating a multitude of women. "We have never seen anything as despicable as what we've seen here," Schneiderman declared.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Two-term California Gov. George Deukmejian, whose anti-spending credo earned him the nickname "The Iron Duke," died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 89. The Republican spent three decades in California politics as an assemblyman, senator, state attorney general and governor. He was elected as the state's 35th governor in 1982 when a massive absentee voting campaign edged him just ahead of Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley.
NEW YORK (AP) - Many members of what's widely known as the kink community are outraged that Eric Schneiderman, in resigning as New York's attorney general, depicted his alleged violence toward several women as "role-playing and other consensual sexual activity." Aficionados of kinky sex noted that Schneiderman's accusers insisted they had given no consent - which is considered obligatory among most practitioners of kink.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The purported sons of Charles Manson could soon be out of the legal battle over his estate after failing to show up in court Tuesday. Matthew Lentz, who claims he was fathered by Manson at a 1967 orgy, looking disheveled and frazzled when he arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court after the brief hearing concluded in the probate case of the late cult leader. Another supposed son, Michael Brunner, filed papers to drop his claims as an alleged heir to the convicted murderer.
CHICAGO (AP) - A purported street-gang member charged in the shooting of an ATF agent in Chicago had opened fire as authorities conducted a middle-of-the-night "covert" operation to fit a tracking device on a vehicle, according to charging documents made public Tuesday. Ernesto "Ernie" Godinez, a 27-year-old who is listed by police as a gang member, is charged with forcible assault of a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent in the unsealed complaint.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A judge expressed skepticism Tuesday of a Mexican national's claim that he's the target of a vindictive federal prosecution after a San Francisco jury acquitted him of murder in a case at the center of a heated national debate over immigration.
