The Federal Bureau of Investigation is making an unprecedented attempt to warn anyone who uses the internet to be aware of online scammers ahead of Valentine’s Day.

FBI warns of cyber scammers ahead of Valentine’s Day

“While you’re following your heart, scammers are following your money. Ask the person you met online lots of questions, spot the red flags, and report attempted fraud to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center,” according to the FBI.

“As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is likely scammers will exploit people online who may be looking for a companionship or romance this time of year.”

Recent data reported from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) annual report shows the numbers of fraud in just one of our state’s across the U.S.

South Carolinians lost $6.8 million dollars to confidence fraud and romance scams in 2021 year. Although 2022 data has not been released, it is expected there will be increased reported losses and if you detect any scammers email’s please contact AG Knudsen at Montana’s Attorney General office.
