While the country overcame supply chain and staffing shortage issues around the 2021 holiday season, there’s a new concern for gift buying in 2022 called inflation!

The most valuable spending/saving tip is always; DON’T spend money you don’t have!

And Relax! I consider the “Your child will love the box the gift came in more than the gift,” story as some of the best parental advice I have received through the years. Don’t sweat the small stuff!

Don’t overthink or stress yourself to overspend. That’s always the golden rule of money management.

Tip #1 is at the top of the list for a reason! MAKE A LIST AND STICK TO IT! Black Friday sales really do offer discounts, but at the end of the day, if you’ve spent more than you planned, it can defeat the purpose.

If you don’t know what you’re looking for specifically its easy to become overwhelmed and spend more than you planned after going into the store and getting that holiday shopping “buzz”.

Make a list before you go into the store and look at it often!

Before you pay, total up the cost in your mind. There’s nothing that can spoil the fun more than buyers’ remorse.

Tip #2 MAKE A BUDGET AND PROMISE TO STAY WITHIN IT!

Even though Black Friday sales are a great chance to save money, especially on big ticket items, overspending can ruin an entire holiday budget in one trip.

Keep a “guesstimate” of items you add to your cart.

Tip #3 USE PROMO CODES AND ONLINE DISCOUNT CODES

One of the greatest advantages of online shopping or being a loyal customer is the discount code perks.

Check to see if there are any online discounts for the gifts you have in mind.

Tip #4 If you honestly don’t like crowds, go out shopping later in the day. The super discounted and promoted items may be gone, but you can avoid the wild crowds and still get great deals.

Tip #5 THINK OUTSIDE THE BLACK FRIDAY BOX

Black Friday is traditionally the biggest retail day of the year but now with so many businesses selling online as well, you can get great bargains on CYBER MONDAY too.

Retail consumer research shows Cyber Monday has the best deals on CLOTHING. And, Big retailers like Best Buy offer 40-50% off some electronics on the weekend following Black Friday.

Tip #6 CHECK PRICE MATCHING

I was given this tip by a huge box store employee a few years ago. She told me their competition had a lower price for the same electronic I was considering buying so in order to keep me as her customer, she offered me the price check price. It’s not being cheap or tacky to ask for a price match, it’s good money sense. The most important tip is always remembering the love you have for the person or people you’re buying for. Care and giving do make the holiday season bright.
