The NWS is keeping the URGENT RED FLAG WARNING in place until 9pm Monday evening in Billings and Yellowstone County.

Winds of up to 40 mph and low humidity means likely conditions for wildfires.

“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong
winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute
to extreme fire behavior,” said NWS Billings.

During a Red Flag Warning, ALWAYS follow the instructions provided by your local fire department and maintain a heightened awareness of anything that can generate a spark or flame and do not throw cigarettes from car windows or drag chains from your vehicle in the field or on the road. ALWAYS be prepared to take action if a wildland fire develops in your area. Avoid using lawn mowers in dry vegetation.
