Update Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:30am: Crews worked throughout the weekend to remove the 15 total derailed cars from the tracks, repair the rail bed and replace rails, and remove and transport the remaining gasoline from the 2 damaged tank cars. 

Environmental teams are also monitoring the levels of the contaminated soil after approximately 30,000 gallons of gasoline spilled into the ground. The soil is being hauled away to an approved site. 

South River Road will remain closed while crews and equipment complete the repair and clean up.

Over 60 personnel and numerous heavy equipment including dump trucks are working to get the line opened for rail traffic. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.

BRIDGER AREA: A train derailed approximately 1/2 mile east of Bridger. East Bridger Road is closed at the RR crossing; South River Road is closed at the intersection of Rushwater Rd. and law enforcement is asking the public “PLEASE AVOID THE AREA TO ALLOW CREWS TO WORK SAFELY, ” according to Stillwater County.Approximately 15 cars derailed at 11:30pm Friday night.Bridger Fire, Carbon County DES, BNSF, and multiple other agencies have responded, and damage assessment is underway.
