The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale Welcomes New Executive Director

BILLINGS MT – The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale welcomes new Executive Director, Ignacio Barrón Viela. Originally from Spain, Ignacio was born in Zaragoza, where he studied music and engineering. He is a classically trained cellist and was a cellist while serving as General Orchestra Manager of the Heinrich Heine Orchestra in Dusseldorf, Germany. He was also principal cellist with the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra in the UK. Recently, he was a member of the USC Orchestra in Los Angeles, CA.

Ignacio has spent more than ten years playing in orchestras and managing music projects worldwide. During his tenure with the Heinrich Heine Orchestra, he was responsible for all aspects of the orchestra’s operations, fundraising, finances, budgeting and planning, as well as coordination of international orchestra tours, concert programs and participation in international festivals.

Ignacio recently completed the International MBA program at USC, where he supported the administrative staff of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association in planning and staging events. He was selected to participate in the Essentials of Orchestra Management course, which is run by the League of American Orchestras and is regarded as the world’s gold standard of orchestra management training.

Ignacio began his business career as an energy engineer working with two of the largest private investor-owned energy companies operating worldwide. As Senior Management Consultant and Project Manager he led teams of 8 to 12 members and worked in several roles in operations teams, driving change and looking for optimization opportunities to improve business practices from financial, technical, and organizational perspectives.

Ignacio is a warm, energetic and engaging young man and is extremely excited to find a position that matches his passion for a leadership career with a symphony and chorale. He enjoys the outdoors, hiking, basketball, socializing with friends, learning and engaging with others. He hopes to build community partnerships.
