The Billings Symphony Orchestra to Hold Auditions Sunday, April 14, 2019

BILLINGS MT- The Billings Symphony Orchestra will hold orchestra auditions on Sunday, April 14, 2019 on the campus of Montana State University – Billings. While there are specific positions vacant, auditions will be held to populate the substitute musician list for all sections of the orchestra.

Current vacancies include: Principal Bassoon, Principal Tuba, Principal Harp, Principal Percussion, Section Flute/Piccolo (primarily second with obligation to piccolo), Section trumpet (rotating between 2nd and 3rd), Assistant Principal 2nd Violin, Section Violin, Section Cello, Section Bass, and substitutes for all instruments.

Individuals interested in auditioning complete the application on the Billings Symphony website audition page and email to Audition sign-up closes Thursday, April 4, 2019. Information and audition repertoire listings can be found on the Billings Symphony’s website at Audition materials are available upon audition sign-up as an email or for pick up at the Billings Symphony office located downtown at 2721 2nd Ave. N. Ste. 350.

The Billings Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-2020 season repertoire includes such works as Gershwin’s American in Paris, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 and Requiem, and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2.

The Billings Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra and all musicians must successfully complete a double-blind audition prior to engagement. Double-blind auditions are held with the candidate performing behind a screen where s/he cannot see the audition committee and in the same fashion, the audition committee does not know her/his identity.

“The Billings Symphony Orchestra is an extraordinary professional orchestra, populated with passionate, talented musicians,” says Anne Harrigan, music director and conductor of the BSO&C. “We strongly encouraged musicians from around the world who are interested in playing at this level to audition.”

Auditions for internship positions with the orchestra will also be held on Saturday, April 14, 2019 and are open to students through high school level.

Auditions for the Billings Symphony Chorale will be held in early August.
