Optimist Club Supports Y Youth Center Renovation

The Magic City Optimist Club is donating $15,000 to renovate the YMCA Youth Rally Room in the Mary Alice Fortin Center. Presentation of the check will be at 4pm, Tuesday, October 25. The money will be used to entirely renovate the Youth Rally Room; new flooring, new lighting, and seating.

Donna Timmerman, president of the Magic City Optimist Club will be presenting the check.  “The Magic City Optimist Club is proud to make this $15,000 donation to the Billings Family YMCA,” said Timmerman. “Our mission is to help kids, that’s what we’re all about,” she added.

  • Currently there are 160 Afterschool kids using the Youth Rally Room daily.
  • Y Summer Camps, that also use the space, were at capacity this year with as many as 200 kids per day.
  • The Y Youth Rally Room is also used for Karate, Team Sports celebrations, and preschool graduation.
  • The Y plans to start using the space for a Kid Club which would be for 8-12 year olds that are in Childwatch late in the evening.

The Billings Family YMCA gives out approximately $250,000 annually for scholarships to kids and families so they can participate in Y programs.
