Update Thursday, September 1 at 1:15pm: Good news on the firefighting of the Deep Creek Fire in the Northwest corner of the Little Belt Mountains. Firefighters were able to hold it back and it’s now estimated at 25 acres.

Firefighters were able to use aerial support to drop slurry and 23 people and 3 helicopters are on the fire Thursday afternoon.


The Deep Creek Fire started yesterday afternoon. It’s burning a few miles west of Monarch and north of the Meagher County Line; this fire is burning quickly with intense heat according to the firefighters on the ground.

The Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest reports the fire is east of the Smith River between Deep Creek and Temple Gulch. We’re following InciWeb (Incident Command) and we’ll keep you updated.
