Now that Billings has received snow on the ground, it is the perfect time to get outside and have some fun! Yourbigsky gathered some ideas for fun activities to do in the snow.
One of the first and most obvious things to do is sledding! Billings has plenty of great places the whole family can enjoy sledding. Try Castle Rock Park and Pioneer Park, where there of tons of hills to slide down. Find other parks in town that look like the ideal sledding spot! Or build a snowman out in the front yard; customize your snowman by adding a hat and a carrot nose.
Take the snow inside for fun experiments and activities from CBC Parents. Let the kids write with snow or build a mini snowman at home. Get out a small tray and fill it shallowly with snow. Kids can write and draw with chopsticks and use twigs for the arms of the snowman. Or do a snow-melting experiment with only a few simple tools: dry erase marker, fresh snow, and a mason jar or clear container. Fill the jar or container with snow and mark the height on the side with the dry-erase marker. Once it is melted, measure the current height and compare the two.
Kids are guaranteed to love snow painting inside too! Fill a large container with snow, then put out watercolors and paintbrushes and let the kids paint in the snow. Another option is to use spray botted and fill them with watercolors. Use cookie cutters for fun designs in the snow too! One winter activity listed by HGTV is to make a homemade snow measurement stick, a fun way to let the kids measure the snow. Paint an old ruler or paint stirrer and mark along the length in inches. Make the measuring stick extra cute with a fun snowman design, complete with twig arms.
Real Simple suggests a snowball fight, making a snow angel, or hitting the ski slopes! There are plenty of ski slopes and resorts in Montana. After a fun day spent outside, warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and get cozy underneath a blanket. Relax and enjoy a fun winter or Christmas movie to get excited for the holiday season!
These ideas are a great way to spend time outdoors in the snow with friends and family.
