June 20- 26 is pollinator week at the Billings Public Library, with special events created to celebrate the importance of flowers and their pollinators. The library has several events for kids, babies, and young teenagers full of entertainment and, most importantly, education.

Storytime Adventurers: Honeybees and Me with Peggy starts June 23 at 10:00 am in the Community Room for ages 0-6. Participants get the opportunity to meet a real beekeeper and learn about all the different types of bees. They also learn what they do while inside beehives and how they pollinate flowers. It is fun, educational, and interactive all in one!

On June 24, a special storytime with American Honey Queen of 2022, Lucy Winn, starts at 10 am in the Community Room. Kids will sing songs and hear stories read by the American Honey Queen winner.

The Perfect Match Pollinator Workshop for tweens and teens will also be on June 24, starting at 2 p.m. in the Community Room. The workshop is presented by Leslie Nelson, who worked for the Montana Conservation Corps with the US Forest Service in Red Lodge, Montana, last year. Nelson is currently working with the Bureau of Land Management Billings Field Officer, where she is working under a wildlife biologist.

Participants of the pollinator workshop learn about the importance and co-evolution between pollinators and plants. They also create their own plants and explore different pollinator species distributed throughout the library. Those in the summer reading program also get reading points if they attend this workshop.

In honor of Pollinator week, try checking out a book about plants and insect pollinators! Library hours are from 9 am – 8 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 am – 6 pm on Friday. There are also hours on Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm. The library is closed on Sundays.

And don’t miss the bike library traveling throughout Billings in the summer! The bike library will be at Pioneer Park library events on Wednesday and at Rail line Coffee Thursdays, where individuals can come out and practice their Spanish.

There is plenty to do at the Billings Public Library, so be sure not to miss out on any educational fun!
