A downed power line forced the I-90 bypass between the exits of South Billings Boulevard and South 27th Street to shut down late Friday morning.

Victoria Hill, Billings’ Public Information Officer, says the powerline has been neutralized, but drivers must detour through the city in order to re-enter the interstate. Northwestern energy predicts that the highway will reopen in about two hours. The Frontage road is unavailable for detours since it is closed for construction.

The Billings Fire Department was called in to help with the situation. The Montana Highway Patrol and the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s office are currently on the scene.

More updates on the situation will be provided as the story develops.
