The first special needs baseball field at Poly Vista Park in Billings will open on August 17. The new field is called Landon’s Legacy Miracle Field and was made possible with the help of the Landon’s Legacy Foundation, Billings Parks and Recreation, and Billings Kiwanis.
Landon’s Legacy was founded after the passing of Landon Patrick Smith in 2013, who had Spina Bifida. Landon loved baseball; his favorite team was the New York Yankees. He dreamed of one day being on a baseball team, hitting a grand slam, rounding all the bases, and sliding into home base. Now his dream can live on with this Miracle Field that will provide opportunities to others who may share the same dream.
The planned field was made possible through donations and community grants from organizations like the Breakfast Exchange Club of Billings, Magic City Optimists, and countless other local organizations that have shown their support for the new field. Billings Kiwanis also made a considerable donation to make constructing the field possible.
The new Miracle Field is located next to the four existing ball fields at Poly Vista Park. Landon’s Legacy Miracle field will also feature other amenities, including a splash pad, sensory playground, seat retaining wall, and raised planters. There will also be a three-season park shelter as well.
On top of the brand new field, Billings Parks and Recreation announced the Miracle League starting in the fall of 2022. The Miracle League gives individuals with disabilities the chance to play baseball and be a part of a baseball team. The league promotes constructing special facilities to fit players’ and their families’ needs.
The league rules are simple: Each player on the Miracle League bats every inning with volunteers, or buddies, assisting players. All players are safe on the bases and score at least one run before the game ends. The last person up to bat also receives a home run, and all team members win every game. Reach out to Billings Parks and Recreation to find volunteer opportunities for the Miracle League!
Come celebrate this beautiful new baseball field at the grand opening on August 17 with food trucks, live music, and plenty of other fun in store!
