It’s the season of giving, and Mattress King is helping others in the community by hosting its Share the Warmth blanket drive through the end of December. Citizens in Billings and Bozeman are encouraged to donate new or gently used blankets that will be given to local organizations.

Tashina Recanati, one of the general managers for Mattress King in Billings, says she loves how much blanket drive helps so many in need. The drive began taking off in 2017 when they were getting at least 100 blankets every season and with more organizations reaching out who needed blankets.

Blankets are donated to organizations like YWCA, Salvation Army, and men’s and women’s shelters. A few years ago, a few women from Cody, Wyoming, donated three garbage bags filled with handmade quilted blankets. Recanati mentions how far the word has spread about their blanket drive in the community.

Mattress King typically partners with Spread the word 406 for the Spirit of Giving campaign. In past blanket drives, they would partner with dry cleaners in town since many blankets were used. But with COVID-19 came a change to allow only new or gently used blankets. Recanati adds they never say no to a donation.

Once blankets are donated, Mattress King then distributes them to local organizations asking for them. They usually separate children’s blankets to send them to the women’s shelter. Many organizations like the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, Family Services, and local churches reach out to Mattress King for blankets.

While there is another blanket drive in Bozeman, Billings carries most of the blanket drive. Most people think about blankets in November and December. Recanati said they will do another push for blankets in January or February since it is still winter and many still need blankets to keep warm.

Tashina mentions they are always willing to partner with community members during the Blanket Drive. Local organizations that need blankets can always reach out to Mattress King by calling 406-256-5464 to ask for blankets.

Get into the holiday spirit by donating blankets to those who need them. You will be helping out many people in the community during the colder months. Donations can be dropped off at either location in Billings.
