The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment for a proposed project outside Huntley, Montana. The press release says the project will resurface roughly one mile at the intersection of Nahamis Avenue and Northern Avenue, ending at the intersection of the old U.S. Highway 312.

The proposed work for this project includes applying a new overlay on the road and undersealing the existing surface. It also includes a finishing seal and cover or chip seal. Upgraded pavement markings and signage are also planned for this project. No utility locations or a new right of way are needed for the project.

The Billings District Preconstruction Engineer, Kurtus Schnieber, says the Nahamis Avenue project happened through coordination with the Yellowstone County Public Works Department and Yellowstone County Commissioners. The Montana Department of Transportation nominated the project in 2022 and has been in talks with Yellowstone County since 2021.

An important part of this project is hearing from others in the community where the project will take place. Any input, ideas, or comments are encouraged for feedback on the Nahamis project. Public comments can be submitted online or in writing. Mail to the Billings Office of the Montana Department of Transportation at P.O. Box 20437, Billings, Montana, 59104-0437. The project is classified as UPN 10252000.

For any questions community members may have, contact Kurtis Schnieber at 406-657-0269 or Projects Engineer Kyle Schuck at 406-657-0226. Construction of the project is tentatively set for August 2023, depending on funding availability and completion of activities for project development.
