The NOVA Center for the Performing Arts announced its open enrollment for the Youth Conservatory classes in Spring 2023 and is available for all ages. The press release says classes are split into categories based on experience level. Additional workshops include Dots, Lines, and Squiggles and All You Need is Love…of Music.
The experience level categories are Rising Stars, Super Stars, and Rock Stars.
In Rising Stars, there are four classes. The Rimrock Opera Chorus for Kids, or the R.O.C.K class, is for ages 6 – 12. Students learn voice placement, projection, rhythm, tempo, and more. The class starts January 10 through February 14 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Storytime Theater is a brand-new class for ages 4 to 51/2 and explores all things theater. Students can learn improv, imagination, discussion, and solve problems central to the story. The class starts on January 11 and ends on February 15 from 2 pm to 3 pm. In Creative Drama, students are introduced to the theater world through arts and crafts, storytelling, theater games, and imagination. This class is for ages 6 – 8, starting January 10 through April 11. Creative Drama is from 3:30 – 4:30. Intro to Theater is a basic introduction to theater skills. Students get comfortable on stage through theater games, learning basic theater knowledge while building characters and engaging in their imagination. The class is for ages 9 -12 and starts January 10 through April 4 from 3:30 pm – 4:40 pm.
In Super Stars, Acting I, students learn the basics of acting. They learn to project their voice, ensemble work, listen, and annunciation. All these techniques are learned through improv exercises and theater games. Super Stars is for ages 9 – 13 and starts January 11 through April 4 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. In Rockstars, Acting II, students can build on what they learned in Super Stars but go deeper into a script and characters. They can learn to master their impulses through scene work and acting exercises. Rockstars are for ages 9 – 13 and start January 12 until April 13 from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.
In Dots, Lines, and Squiggles, students learn how to read music for teenagers and adults. This class starts April 18 through May 23 from 4 pm to 5 pm. All You Need is Love…. Of Music is all about the Beatles. Students learn how the history of the 1960s band and how they changed pop music. They also learn about how their songs have stood the test of time. Homework for the class is to listen to a designated Beatles song! This class begins January 12 through April 13. Participants meet on Thursdays from 4 pm – 5 pm.
