The long-awaited grand opening of Landon’s Legacy Field at Poly Vista Park is finally here! The press release from Billings Parks and Recreation says the Grand opening ceremony starts Wednesday, August 17, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Community members are asked to attend the ceremony celebrating the first Miracle Field in Billings. Enjoy food, ice cream and watch the official ribbon cutting that starts at 5:30 p.m. After the ribbon cutting will be a fun photo booth to take pictures in, live music, and a dunk tank! Guests also get hte opportunity to meet the new mascot for the Miracle League, Homer.

“We hope the community comes out to support this event and gets excited about the new facility,” said Paul Reinhardt, Billings Parks and Recreations’ Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator. “It’s one of a kind. There really isn’t one like it anywhere near Billings.”

Guests can also learn more about the Landon’s Legacy Foundation, which made the Miracle Field possible. Marcie Smith started the foundation after the passing of her son, Landon, who had Spina Bifida. She brought the idea of the Miracle Field to the City of Billings almost ten years ago. Landon dreamed of being part of a baseball team, and now his dream is possible. The Miracle Field is unique because it can accommodate wheelchairs and other equipment with a rubberized field. This field allows adults and children with mental or physical disabilities to be included in a baseball league.

“This is something that Landon’t Legacy has been working towards for a very long time with fundraising and all their efforts in the community,” Reinhart said. “I’m happy we are able to contribute to this event and help put it all together. It’s been exciting to see.”

Volunteer opportunities, such as announcers, scorekeepers, and coaches, are available during the Miracle League season that starts in September. Reinhardt says there is also a need for buddies out on the field whose jobs are to make players feel safe and assist when needed.
