Billings Code Enforcement is reminding citizens about proper snow removal at their residences.

The Public Information Officer for the City of Billings, Victoria Hill, says that the volunteer Snow Buddies Program will be inactive this winter due to a lack of interest.

According to the municipal code on snow removal, it is up to the home’s occupants to keep the sidewalks outside their residence clear and safe for pedestrians outside the private property. The occupant must remove ice, snow, and slush from the area.

Additionally, it is illegal to dispose of snow on private property and move it to a public sidewalk or street. Snow, slush, and ice removal should be done 24 hours after a snowfall. Remember to keep these tips as snowfall becomes more common during the winter season.
