Billings Police Department provides information on West High shooting threat


On 10/21/2020, the Billings Police Department (BPD) joined investigative efforts with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding a tip received by the FBI about shooting to take place at West High School on October 26th. The tip stemmed from an interaction and comments in online chat room.

The BPD and FBI are actively investigating the information received. These investigative efforts include determining the credibility of the threat as well as determining the source of the chat room posts.

Threats such as these are taken seriously and result in a rapid response from Law Enforcement to prevent and intervene before an incident if possible. At this time, the information being investigated is not corroborated to present a credible imminent threat.

The West High School Resource Officer is working with the FBI and SD2 Officials on the matter. As the investigation continues so will the threat assessment and response by Law Enforcement and School Officials.
