Billings, MT, March 12, 2020: The Billings Chamber Board of Directors voted recently to endorse the elementary school levy being proposed by School District #2. Levy ballots, which will be mailed April 17th, will ask voters to increase the elementary (kindergarten through 8th grade) general fund by $1,600,000.
Our schools are facing major funding challenges, and the levy is absolutely necessary to ensure these funding issues do not become even worse,” explains Chamber President and CEO John Brewer. “Until the state of Montana adjusts its school funding formula to support the increasing number of students in the larger districts, the levy is our only tool to support the desperate need in our schools.”
The Billings Chamber board, in its vote to endorse the levy, noted the importance of a quality public school system to our workforce, to our recruitment, and to our community quality of life as a whole. “The funding issues our school district faces cannot be resolved without continuing community support,” said Chamber board chair Brian Brown. “As a champion for the best possible community we can create, supporting funding for our schools is a must for Billings.”
