MDT Proposes Erosion Repair on Rosebud Creek Road South of Rosebud

Billings Area Highlights

ROSEBUD, MONTANA (October 29,2019) – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to repair the erosion adjacent to Secondary Highway 447 at Reference Post (RP) 9.0 and RP 15.9. The two sites are located 9 miles and 15.9 miles respectively south of Rosebud.

Proposed work at RP 9.0 includes installation of a riprap retaining wall on the west side of the highway to prevent further encroachment of Rosebud Creek toward the highway.  Proposed work at RP 15.9 includes installation of a drop structure at the outlet end of a drainage culvert to dissipate energy and stop the downstream head cut from progressing toward the highway.  The work at both sites will be adjacent to the highway and is expected to be completed within existing MDT right-of-way.  The purpose of the project is to protect the highway from impacts due to erosion. The letting date of this project is based upon completion of project development activities and availability of funding.

An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community. Montana Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at http://www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Glendive office at PO Box 890, Glendive, MT  59330-0890.
