The Billings Symphony Orchestra Announces Auditions for Tenured Musicians

June 4, 2021

BILLINGS MT – The Billings Symphony announces auditions for the following tenured positions: Principal Bassoon, Principal Percussion, Principal Harp, Principal Cello, and Section Horn. Recorded pre-screening auditions will be accepted through July 28, 2021 (principal positions) or August 25, 2021 (horn). Successful candidates will be invited to live auditions on Sunday, September 26, 2021 (principal positions) and Sunday, October 24, 2021 (horn). Substitute audition submissions for all positions will continue to be accepted electronically at any time throughout the year.

For details and applications, visit the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale (BSOC) careers webpage at for audition information and repertoire listings. Audition materials will be sent via email from our Manager of Artistic Operations upon submission of the audition application.

The Billings Symphony’s 2021–2022 season repertoire includes such works as Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

The Billings Symphony is a professional orchestra, and all musicians must successfully complete a double-blind audition prior to engagement. Double-blind auditions are held with the candidate performing behind a screen where the auditionee cannot see the audition committee and in the same fashion, the audition committee does not know the identity of the auditionee.

“The Billings Symphony Orchestra is an extraordinary professional orchestra, populated with passionate, talented musicians,” says Anne Harrigan, music director and conductor of the BSOC. “We strongly encourage musicians from around the region who are interested in playing at this level to audition.”

Auditions for the Billings Symphony Chorale will be held in late August 2021. Please contact to apply.

The Billings Symphony Orchestra and Chorale is the largest professional orchestra in Montana. Established in 1951, the BSOC strives to enrich lives through music. Consisting of over 135 musicians, the BSOC serves a regional population of 400,000 people located throughout South Central and Eastern Montana, and Northeastern Wyoming by introducing music to children, youth, adults, and seniors through Explore Music!, the BSOC’s community engagement program.
